Shabbat shalom

Candle Lighting:

-Pray as lighting; “Blessed are you, oh Lord our God, Sovereign of all, who has given us life through your Son and commands us to be a light to all people.”

-Pray for the kids

-Wife Prays Psalm 112

-Husband Prays Proverbs 31

Blessing for the children:

-For the Girls; May God make you like Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah.

-For the Boys; May God make you like Ephraim, Menasheh, Daniel, and John the Baptist

-For both; “As The Lord spoke to Moses: So I say to you: “The Lord bless you and protect you; The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up his face toward you and give you peace.”’ (Numbers 6:22-26)

Blessing over the wine:

-Remembering Creation: “And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. The heaven and the earth were finished, and all their array. On the seventh day God finished the work that He had been doing, and He ceased on the seventh day from all the work that He had done. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because on it God ceased from all the work of creation that He had done.” (Genesis 1:31 to Genesis 2:3)

-The Prayer Blessing: “Blessed are You, Lord God, Sovereign of all, who finding favor with us sanctified us through your Son. In love and favor, You made the Sabbath our heritage as a reminder of the work of Creation. As first among our sacred days, it recalls to us the Exodus from Egypt. You chose us and set us apart from the peoples. In love and favor You have given us Your Sabbath as an inheritance. Blessed are You, Lord, who gives us rest.”

Blessing over the Bread:

-Remembering Jesus:  “For I received from the Lord that which I also passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took bread, and after he had given thanks he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

-The Prayer of Blessing: “Blessed are You, Lord God, Sovereign of all, who finding favor with us sanctified us through your Son. In love and favor, You made Him to take our place in death on the cross, and through His resurrection you have brought us into new life with You. Blessed are You Lord who In love and favor have given us Your Son as the true Sabbath rest for our soul.”

Grace after the meal:

Sovereign God of the universe, we praise You: Your goodness sustains the world. You are the God of grace, love, and compassion, the Source of bread for all who live; for Your love is everlasting. In Your great goodness we need never lack for food; You provide food enough for all. We praise You, O God, Source of food for all who live. For this good earth that You have entrusted to our mothers and fathers, and to us; for our deliverance from bondage; for the covenant You have sealed into our hearts; for Your life-giving love and grace; for your law, our way of life, and for the food that sustains us day by day, we give You thanks. For all this we thank You. Let Your praise ever be on the lips of all who live, as it is written: "When you have eaten and are satisfied, give praise to your God who has given you this good earth." We praise You, O God, for the earth, and for its sustenance.

Eternal God, Source of our being, show compassion for Your people, Your city, and Your holy dwelling place. Guide and sustain us in all our ways, and be a help to us in all our troubles. May we ever be able to help ourselves and one another, even as we rely on Your open and generous bounty.

Eternal God, strengthen our resolve to live by Your ways, and to remember the Sabbath, the day of rest and serenity, of loving reflection upon Your will. Lord, give us this day rest from sorrow, anguish, and pain, and renew our vision of a more beautiful world.

We praise You, the author and perfecter of our faith, the source of liberating power and vision, of all that is holy and good. You have shown us love and kindness always; day by day You grant us grace and compassion, deliverance and freedom, prosperity and blessing, life and peace.

Merciful One, be our God forever.

Merciful One, bless our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

Merciful One, help us to sustain ourselves in honor.

Merciful One, keep the yoke of oppression off from our necks.

Merciful One, bless this house and this table at which we have eaten.

Merciful One, send us tidings of Your return, glimpses of good to come, redemption and consolation.

Merciful One, find us worthy of witnessing a time of revival and of many attaining eternal life through Your Son.

Merciful One, bless us and all our dear ones; as You blessed our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; Sarah, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel, so bless us, one and all.

Merciful Father, heaven and earth alike are blessed by Your presence. Let all generations proclaim Your glory. Amen.

The Earth is Round But Your World is Flat

This may be one of the truest things I’ve ever written but it will probably get the least amount of attention.

Usually when I write about useless things it gets laughed at and shared 100 times but when I try to write about how your life online isn’t real, or any other fact like that, it gets ignored completely.

I think the reason for that is because people don’t want to be told how things really are. They want to laugh at silly cat videos or argue with some guy they met one time at a baseball game over whether the color red is better or the color blue is better.

Who knows though, there could be many reasons aside from just that one.

Anyway like I said in my premise, the world is flat. At least yours is. If that comes as a surprise to you then you’re not really paying attention and you’re actually proving the point of my entire article. Although I guess I’m kinda proving it by writing it online...oh well.

What do I mean?

Well first off we are so distracted by technology and synthetic things that bring us closer and closer to the obscure in this world.

We can destroy humanity with the touch of a button.

We disappear into the abyss of Facebook.

We obsess over selfies and images on Instagram.

"The Earth is round but your world is flat."

We mindlessly waste our life away in a virtual world that gives us nothing but negative empty feelings. Meanwhile your flat world goes about without you physically present in it.

Just today I saw a lady at the park who sat on a bench completely absorbed in her virtual life on her phone while her daughter desperately tried to get her attention from 20 feet away to show her a frog she found. After multiple attempts the little girl gave up and went about her play time.

That woman’s world has never been more falsely connected while being so truly disconnected. She thinks that her virtual world is making her more connected when the reality is that she’s forgetting what it means to look up and around you.

Your everyday world is only about 1 square mile of space. You can’t see the curvature of the Earth, the horizon is smaller than where you see the sun setting, and the people in that little tiny space of flat world need your attention more so than the virtual ones on the other side of the globe.

Sure they’re real people too, with the exception of that rich prince who wants you to inherit his fortune if you’d only give him your bank account information. But they don’t need you as much as you’re needed in your flat world community.

We need to stop worrying about whether the Earth is flat and start acting like our world is because that little girl at the park deserves better and the only way she gets that is by landing back in the real world from the virtual space.

Be blessed ya’ll

The Beautiful Soul

The Beautiful Soul

Bedtime 10July2019

People tell me that I married above my station in life and I’m not here to say they’re wrong but, they’re wrong.

The truth is that they only know half of the matter.

Most of the time when people say this it’s because they’re looking at my wife’s physical beauty and comparing it to my physical... confidence? That might be the wrong wording but the point is that she is much more good looking than I am.

In this assessment alone the statement is true, I married well above my station in life. That however is not the whole truth.

The rest of the story, and the part that is arguably more to the point of my station in life, is that my wife has the most beautiful soul of anyone I know.

Her spiritual beauty far exceeds her physical beauty and that can’t be captured in a picture on Facebook for people to notice.

It can however be observed in the following bedtime conversation...

Adelyn: “Momma how does God use bad things that satan does and turn them into good things?”

Rebecca: “Well have you ever fell on the sidewalk and scraped your knee? It hurts right? Then you get up and you go in and get a bandaid. That’s a bad thing that happened to you. Now when you see someone else who falls down you can help them get back up, help them go in and get a bandaid, and you can say “it’s ok, I know how you feel.” That’s how God uses some things for good.”

Adelyn: “I still...like, I don’t really. I mean I guess it’s like I really, but it’s hard to. Well I don’t really undergetit.”

Don’t worry Becky, I “undergetit”, and I married far below your Heavenly station...
